So, Digby Pearson, head of Earache Records just posted a mediafire link to download the as-yet-unreleased Burzum album “Belus”. Now, granted, Varg Vikernes has had enough bandwidth wasted on him.  He made some influential records, but he is an admitted (and convicted) arsonist, racist and murderer.  So any moral continuum that you try to place him on, he’s going to be at the extreme.
BUT…I think it is interesting that we have the head of a pretty big underground record label not only encouraging illegal downloading, but making it easier to do so.  Like I said, Burzum is an extreme case, and maybe it is easier to draw the line because it is so extreme, but the fact that someone of Pearson’s relative high profile (within a specific sub-sub-sub-culture , sure, but still…) would post this is a bit odd.
It’ll be interesting to see what, if anything, comes of this.
